‘Nosferatu’ Trailer Reveals Robert Eggers’ Nightmarish Vision for Dracula

Robert Eggers’ Nosferatu, perhaps one of the most anticipated auteur movies of the year, just dropped its first trailer today. Focus Features will release the movie on Christmas Day. The trailer first played in theaters over the weekend in front of The Bikeriders, and has now been released online.

The Northman and The Lighthouse director is reuniting with some of his usual collaborators, as well as new faces. The cast includes Lily-Rose Depp, Nicholas Hoult, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Emma Corrin, Willem Dafoe, Bill Skarsgård, and Ralph Ineson. The film is described as “a gothic tale of obsession between a haunted young woman (Depp) and the terrifying vampire (Skarsgård) infatuated with her, causing untold horror in its wake.” Here is the first trailer:

Eggers, the mastermind behind The Witch, The Lighthouse, and The Northman, has been one of the most interesting filmmakers to watch over the past 10 years. Every time he makes a movie, he brings something new to the table while sticking to a characteristic aesthetic and visual language that makes him unique amongst a crowded market of lookalike pictures. So yeah, let’s see what he has in store for us next.

Nosferatu opens in theaters on December 25.
